ABOUT AMINA …
Amina and her (fraternal) twin sister Ameera, were born in Boston, Massachusetts, however, they only lived in Boston for the first 6 months of their lives.
Amina has been married for 8 years to a Navy veteran. She has two adult sons who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Amina is keenly aware of challenges involving children / loved ones dealing with mental health and substance addiction concerns.
At the age of 14 she decided that she wanted to become an attorney after watching a documentary about a man who had served 2 decades in prison for a crime he did not commit. At this young age she tapped into her potential to inspire change. Eager to begin her calling, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School at age 16. Since her family received public assistance when she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and because she was only 16 years old, she became emancipated in order to sign her own student loans to get through college.
She attended New York University and obtained her Bachelor’s in Journalism and Political Science with a Joint Minor in Mathematics and Computer Science in just 3 years. She graduated from New York University at age 19.
Amina had her first son at age 20. While attending law school, Amina often took her infant son to class with her as she was a single mother during her first year of law school. After graduating with her Juris Doctorate from the University of Richmond Law School she had her 2nd child. After having her 2nd child, she began her legal career working in the trenches, day in and day out, with Judges, Clerks, Bailiffs, Correctional Officers, Probation Officers, Police Officers, Victims and the Accused, as well as the families of the victims and the accused and Prosecutors. These constant and consistent interactions have equipped her with the knowledge and experience she needs to effectuate crime prevention.
Amina has a longstanding commitment to community service, she used her various team-building skills while serving on the Juvenile Law & Education Conference Planning Committee; Juvenile Law Committee, Chair; and the Client Services Subcommittee and the Juvenile Standards of Practice Committee.
Amina is running for Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney to improve the quality of life of ALL of the citizens of the City of Norfolk by focusing on partnerships to effectuate crime prevention.
